Task Group 3.6: Computational issues in cross-sectoral climate impact calculations

Objectives

This task surveys computational techniques and solutions required for large meaningful cross-sectoral climate impact computations.

Challenges include:

  • The heterogeneous nature & architecture of the existing models, software, and interfaces
  • The lack of computational power needed for running some models, and even more so combined models, including the corresponding costs
  • The present non-inclusion of mathematical, or economic, equilibrium computation algorithms with the corresponding calculation overhead
  • The lack of use of code optimization tools by some models
  • All rendering cross-sectoral or cross-impact results rather limited.
