Short-term scientific mission (STSM) at Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK)

Dr. Ritika Srinet, a postdoctoral researcher from Forest Modelling Group at University of Helsinki, Finland spent 2 weeks with Forest and Ecosystem Resilience Group at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) to develop a framework for country-scale modelling of climate impacts on forests using PREBAS model in Finland following the ISIMIP protocols

The objective of this STSM was to establish a protocol for country-scale modelling of climate impacts on forests using ERA-Land climate data with the process-based model PREBAS in Finland adhering to ISIMIP protocols. During my stay at PIK, I engaged in in-depth discussions with Dr. Christopher Rayer and Dr. Thirza van Laar, gaining valuable insights into the ISIMIP framework and its implementation in the regional forest sector. The primary focus during the STSM was on processing and doing initial checks ERA-Land climate for Finland. The general forest management storyline definitions were also discussed, and checklists were prepared for various management scenarios. The management scenarios to be used in PREBAS are being developed in line with the discussion to include country-specific guidelines and policies.

Beyond the scientific merit, this visit also allowed me to explore the stunning palaces and rich cultural heritage of Potsdam.

I would like to thank the EU COST Association and the COST Action CA19139 PROCLIAS for supporting this STSM.
