STSM at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski"
by Rogert Sorí Gómez
This STSM was carried out at the Department of Meteorology and Geophysics of the Physics Faculty of Sofia, University "St. Kliment Ohridski". The main objective of the work plan was the attribution of drought conditions, particularly the hydrological one, in Bulgaria. To achieve this, the oceanic and terrestrial sources of moisture that contribute to the precipitation over the country were identified through a Lagrangian modelling approach. The role of the sources in the occurrence and severity of droughts (particularly the hydrological drought) was determined, as well as their relationship with the vegetation activity. To meet these objectives and increase my knowledge, the collaboration and experience of the researchers in the host group, were crucial.
Moreover, I participated in the Fourth Scientific Seminar "Physics and Chemistry of the Earth System" organized by the host Department, which allowed me to exchange knowledge and learn about the work carried out in the Department.
Finally, in addition to the results obtained, it was agreed to collaborate in the field of attribution of other atmospheric phenomena that affect the country, and the development of similar studies for other regions of Europe and the world.
